Wünschenswert und nützlich sind Vorkenntnisse aus den schuldrechtlichen Grundkursen (Allgemeiner Teil und Gesetzliche Schuldverhältnisse).
Die Veranstaltung soll einerseits Kenntnisse des für Examen und Praxis besonders wichtigen Haftungs- und Schadensrechts (Verschuldens- und Gefährdungshaftung) wiederholen und vertiefen. Andererseits soll sie in die Schadensregulierung einführen. Dabei ist nicht nur das Prozessrecht als Kernfach des Schwerpunktbereichs 1 zu berücksichtigen, sondern auch die Tatsache, dass in weitem Umfang Versicherer an der Regulierung beteiligt sind und eine Konfliktbeilegung überwiegend außergerichtlich erfolgt.
