Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit dem komplexen Thema „Arbeit und Karriere im Wandel“. Dabei werden u.a. folgende Fragen gestellt und analysiert: Was versteht man überhaupt unter Karriere? Wie lassen sich individuelle Karrieren soziologisch denken? Ist Karriere nur Sache des Individuums? Welche Funktionen haben Karrieren? In welchen Berufsgruppen ist Karriere überhaupt möglich? Einerseits werden verschiedene Karrierekonzepte (Arbeitskraftunternehmer, boundaryless career, protean career, Intrapreneur etc.) vorgestellt und kritisch reflektiert, andererseits soll die Beschäftigung mit aktueller soziologischer Forschungsliteratur zum Thema dazu führen, dass sowohl individuelle als auch gesellschaftliche Determinanten von Karriereentwicklungen aufgedeckt werden.
