231019 Second Language Acquisition PAL (Tut) (WiSe 2018/2019)

Contents, comment

The „Peer Assisted Learning“ (PAL) sessions serve to give students more possibilities to actively acquire subject specific contents by exchanging views and ideas with others. While doing so, they will be supported by students in higher semesters who have already successfully completed the lecture.
Accompanying the lecture, you will therefore work in set learner groups that are led by student learning facilitators, the PAL teamers. Other than „classical“ tutors, it is not a PAL teamer’s task to explain contents or present solutions but to encourage the exchange of the peers by providing methods and to moderate the discussions. Moreover, they are available for general questions. During the weekly PAL sessions, you will review the lecture’s contents, clarify any questions that might have come up and prepare for the exam as well as talk about homework and worksheets.
Furthermore, the PAL sessions serve as a means to get in contact with other students and to network and motivate each other. In addition to working on linguistic contents, you can also exchange views on other important aspects of your student life and get support from each other and/or the PAL teamers if you have any questions or concerns.
PAL is an acronym for „Peer Assisted Learning“. It has been based at the „Zentrum für Lehren und Lernen“ (ZLL) within the project „Gemeinsam anfangen – durch Austausch lernen“ at Bielefeld University since October 2014. More info about PAL can be found here: http://www.uni-bielefeld.de/Universitaet/Einrichtungen/SLK/peer_learning/pal/index.html
