Die Veranstaltung gibt einen Überblick über aktuelle sozialpsychologische Theorien und Befunde zum Thema Bedrohungserleben. Es werden darin Fragen behandelt wie: Welche Arten von Bedrohungen gibt es? Wie reagieren Menschen auf Bedrohungen? Wann sind Menschen besonders bzw. weniger sensibel für Bedrohungen? Welche gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen haben Bedrohungen? Beispielhafte Theorien und Modelle sind: Terror Management Theory, Uncertainty Management Theory, Just World Theory, General Process Model of Threat and Defense. Durch das Lesen von Primärliteratur werden darüber hinaus wissenschaftliche Methoden besprochen und diskutiert, mit denen man diesen Fragen auf den Grund gehen kann.

Gute Englischkenntnisse sind erforderlich, da die Literatur primär in englischer Sprache vorliegt.
Der erfolgreiche Abschluss des Moduls 27-G ist wünschenswert.

Für die Vergabe von Leistungspunkten sind eine regelmäßige Präsenz in der Lehrveranstaltung sowie das Lesen der vorgegebenen Literatur erforderlich. Es wird zudem erwartet, dass alle TeilnehmerInnen in der Lage sind, sich an den Diskussionen über die Lektüre aktiv und regelmäßig zu beteiligen. Eine weitere Anforderung ist die aktive Mitgestaltung einer Sitzung (u. a. Präsentation, Diskussionsleitung, Entwicklung einer eigenen Fragestellung...).
