In this broad introduction to creative writing, students experiment with various kinds of prose fiction and creative non-fiction, as well as - time permitting - exploring some subgenres of poetry and drama. In addition to providing a forum for committed and hard-working participants to work intensively at their own writing skills, the seminar should interest future teachers alert to the rich potential of creative writing in teaching language and literature.
The seminar can be taken for Vertiefungsmodul 6.2, but is also open to any student of English who enjoys creative writing, or would like to try it - provided there is enough space in the room. This is a course that tends to attract people who participate solely for the pleasure of writing and being with like-minded individuals - and that is what gives the class its soul and energy.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
The course requirements are that participants come to class (where the main activity is writing), and participate with passion and enthusiasm, keep a writer’s notebook during the semester, and hand in four “polished pieces” in a three-weekly rhythm the course of the semester. Everyone also takes part in the “poetry picnic” in the last session of the semester where we read, sing or perform extracts from what we’ve written in the course of the semester.
Students who are taking the seminar for VM6 are required to prepare a portfolio of their “polished pieces” to be submitted after the end of the seminar. If students in VM6 wish to do their “Projektarbeit” for 4 LPs in this seminar, they should approach me to discuss a project.
