270060 Cognitive Neuroscience of Selective Perception (S) (SoSe 2018)

Contents, comment

Perception is inherently selective. Only part of the current envirnonment is consciously available for various forms of explicit actions (e.g., perceptual report). The phenomena of change blindness and inattentinal blindness (not seen gorilla) constitute well-known examples. In this seminar, we will review the current state of the art of research on selective perception. For this purpose, we read, present (in form of talks) and discuss selected chapters from the recent Handbook of Attention (2015, Fawcett et al., MIT), supplemented by relevant journal papers.

Requirements for participation, required level

A degree in Psychology (BSc) including significant neuroscience courses (e.g., biological psychology or neuropsychology) is required.
