230596 Literature, Media and Intercultural Learning (GymGes) (S) (SoSe 2007)

Contents, comment

In this course we will consider the interconnections between literature, media and intercultural learning in the classroom. We will examine the goals of using literary texts in the foreign language classroom and develop criteria for the selection of suitable texts. We will look at some short poems and short stories that might profitably be used in the Sekundarstufe I, and will then spend time looking at how to work with a novel in the Sekundarstufe II. Students will need to purchase the novel, which is About a Boy by Nick Hornby. Finally, we shall briefly consider how the film version of the novel might be used for teaching. Two students will be expected to briefly present a topic from the course plan each week and provide a handout to be placed on the web-page. For details of assessment please see my web-page.
