The seminar (which will be either in English or in German) primarily focuses on theoretical contributions to the sociology of education.
This seminar will explore both classical and new themes in the sociology of education. Special emphasis will be put on the relation of sociology of education to general sociology, and the comparison of education with other function systems. The following themes and distinctions will be dealt with: (a) socialization and education, (b) family and school, (c) interaction and organisation, (d) profession and organisation, (e) learning and instruction, (f) reproduction and evolution, (g) structure and discourse, (h) reflection theories and scientific theories, (i) orality, literacy and electronic media, and finally (j) inclusion and exclusion.

Requirements for participation, required level

Willingness to give a presentation about one of the reader texts.
