Für die Erzähltexte des "späten Realismus" wird häufig konstatiert, sie seien "erstaunlich modern", verwendeten "moderne" Schreibweisen, wie man sie eigentlich erst aus der Zeit um 1900 kenne, kurz, sie seien "ihrer" Zeit voraus gewesen. So häufig diese Rede anzutreffen ist, so wenig präzise wird jedoch meist bestimmt, worin denn diese "Modernität" bestehe. Genau hier setzt das Seminar an und versucht die Rede von der "Modernität des späten Realismus" anhand der Leitlinien
a) Polyperspektivität,
b) neue Modelle der literarischen Darstellung von Massendynamik,
c) Integration je aktueller Wissensbestände in literarische Texte ein Stück weit einmal wirklich zu operationalisieren.Dazu sollen struktur-funktionale Analysen der sechs »Krähenfelder Geschichten« Wilhelm Raabes aus den Jahren 1873-1876 (insbesondere »Zum wilden Mann«, »Höxter und Corvey«, »Die Innerste« und »Frau Salomé«) dienen, die man als Experimente in einer Umbruchphase von Raabes Schreiben ansehen kann.
Als Einstiegslektüre empfohlen:
Raabe, Wilhelm: Zum wilden Mann. Stuttgart (RUB); ders.: Höxter und Corvey. Stuttgart (RUB).
