Der karibische Raum ist wegen seiner Insularität ein Modell für eine interkulturelle, hybride kulturelle Einheit aus getrennten Subsystemen. Die Literaturen, Musikformen und kulturellen Traditionen gehören verschiedenen sprachlichen Traditionen wie den Spanischen, Englischen, Französischen, Niederländischen und den Kreolisierungen mit afrikanischen und indianischen und indischen Sprachen an, ebenso die kulturellen Hybridformen. In dem Kurs soll speziell Literatur und Musik aus diesen Traditionen exemplarisch anhand von wichtigen Werken analysiert werden.
