Das Kolloquium ist als eine Veranstaltung vor allem zum Austausch und zur wechselseitigen Erprobung von Arbeiten oder Arbeitsvorhaben von Studierenden gedacht, die dabei sind, ihr Studium abzuschließen. Daneben sollen auch interessierende Neuerscheinungen aus dem Bereich der praktischen Philosophie diskutiert werden. Dabei ist "praktische Philosophie" weit zu verstehen. Insbesondere sind damit sowohl historische als auch systematische Untersuchungen gemeint.
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung (im BA-Studiengang) werden zwei kleinere Leistungen (ausgearbeiteter Diskussionsbeitrag, Protokoll, mündliche Prüfung etc.) erwartet. Die Anforderungen für den Erwerb eines Leistungsnachweises (im Magister- oder Lehramts-Studiengang) werden zu Beginn der Veranstaltung bekannt gegeben.
