Soziale Insekten wie Bienen und Ameisen nutzen visuelle Informationen für die Navigation. Anhand von Momentaufnahmen und den darauf auffindbaren Landmarken sind sie in der Lage, ein zuvor besuchtes Navigationsziel zu erreichen.
Diesbezüglich existieren verschiedene Modelle, die die zugrunde liegenden Mechanismen beschreiben.
Diese Art von Modellen ist aufgrund ihrer Sparsamkeit auch für die Navigation mobiler Roboter von Interesse.
Das Projekt beschäftigt sich mit der Implementierung dieser Mechanismen. Zu Beginn soll, anhand ausgewählter Artikel, durch die Teilnehmer ein Überblick über die einzelnen Verfahren gegeben werden. Anschließend sollen die vorgestellten Verfahren in C/C++ implementiert werden.
Ziel diese Projektes ist eine C/C++-Bibliothek, welche die unterschiedlichsten Navigationsmodelle zur Verfügung stellen soll.
Um einen guten Einstieg in die Materie zu gewährleisten, können schon vorhandene Bildverarbeitungsbibliotheken der Arbeitsgruppe verwendet werden, so dass das Hauptaugenmerk auf der Implementation der Navigationsmodelle beruht.
Desweiteren steht ein mobiler Pioneerroboter mit Panoramakamera zur Verfügung, um die implementierten Modelle zu testen.

Das Projekt hat einen kleinen "Theoretischen Teil" und einen größeren
Praxisteil. Der Termin der Veranstaltung wird mit den interessierten
Teilnehmern kurzfristig und flexibel vereinbart.
