Das Seminar "Datenbankprogrammierung" führt in die konzeptionelle Modellierung sowie in die Erstellung und Verwaltung relationaler Datenbanken ein. Am Beispiel der Datendefinitions- und -manipulationssprache SQL (für Structured Query Language) soll die Erstellung von Datenbanken sowie das Einpflegen und Recherchieren von Daten in texttechnologischen Anwendungsbereichen erlernt werden. Über den praktischen Umgang mit SQL hinaus wird die Erstellung von
Datenbankdefinitionsskripts ausgehend von dem Entity-Relationship-Modell thematisiert. Dieses Modell bietet einen konzeptionellen, diagrammatischen bzw. graphischen Zugang zur Datenmodellierung und ist daher hervorragend für die Einführung in das Datenbankkonzept geeignet. Einen Schwerpunkt der Veranstaltung bilden so genannte Normalformen der relationenalgebraischen Modellierung von Datenbanken. Diese Normalformen dienen zur Sicherung einer möglichst redundanzarmen und konsistenten Datenhaltung. Das Seminar stellt schließlich mit der objektorientierten Modellierung eine Erweiterung des Datenbankkonzepts vor, dass sich an den Möglichkeiten der objektorientierten Programmierung orientiert.
