Die Veranstaltung führt in die Grundlagen und Anwendungsbereiche der Texttechnologie ein. Es geht darum, die Texttechnologie unter dem Gesichtspunkt ihres Gegenstands, ihrer Fragestellungen und Methoden zu charakterisieren. Zu diesem Zweck werden im theoretischen Teil der Veranstaltung grundlegende Begriffe der Texttechnologie eingeführt und anhand von Beispielen erläutert. Dies betrifft unter anderem den Text-, Dokument- und Hypertextbegriff. Diese Begriffe werden unter sprach-, informations- und medienwissenschaftlichen Aspekten beleuchtet. Ferner werden Grundlagen der Zeichencodierung thematisiert. Der zweite Teil des Kurses vermittelt Grundlagen von Informationssystemen zur Verwaltung, Verarbeitung und Analyse textueller Einheiten. Dies betrifft unter anderem Datenbank- und Information-Retrieval-Systeme aber auch grundlegende Anwendungen wie die Textkategorisierung und die Textstrukturierung.
