Der Kunstbegriff wird auf so verschiedene Arten von Gegenständen angewendet, dass Skepsis angebracht zu sein scheint gegenüber Versuchen, die Wesenseigenschaft der Kunst zu erklären. Haben alle Kunstgegenstände etwas gemeinsam? Von welcher Art von Gegenständen reden wir, wenn wir von Kunstwerken reden? Worüber urteilen wir, wenn wir ein ästhetisches Urteil fällen? Über physische oder über geistige Entitäten?
Wir können Kunst produzieren, interpretieren und lieben, ohne zu wissen, in welcher Weise sie existiert. Für die Ästhetik ist jedoch die kunstontologische Frage zentral.
In der Veranstaltung sollen verschiedene Positionen anhand einer Auswahl von repräsentativen Texten diskutiert werden.
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung (im BA-Studiengang) werden zwei Kurzessays, für einen Leistungsnachweis (im Magister- oder Lehramts-Studiengang) wird eine schriftliche Hausarbeit erwartet.
