Wissensgesellschaft ist ein neuer Modebegriff über die Soziologie hinaus in den Medien und der Politik. Ein zentraler Aspekt der Diskussion um die Wissensgesellschaft stellt die Frage nach der Zukunft der Wissenschaft und ihrer Rolle in der Gesellschaft dar. Einerseits verbindet sich mit dem Begriff die Erwartung, dass wissenschaftliches Wissen eine immer größere Bedeutung gewinnt. Andererseits erodiert die Autorität der Wissenschaft angesichts der Unsicherheit des Wissens.
Die Veranstaltung wird unterschiedliche Facetten der Wissensgesellschaft, so etwa die neuen Konfigurationen im Verhältnis der Wissenschaft zu Politik, Wirtschaft und Medien, aufzeigen
