Das Phänomen der Zuwanderung fordert sowohl die Öffentlichkeiten als auch die Wissenschaft zu Debatten um den Stellenwert der Kultur in Migrations- und Integrationsprozessen und um die Ausgestaltung kultureller Dynamiken heraus. Im Rahmen dieses Seminars sollen die wichtigsten Debatten rezipiert und vergleichend untersucht werden. Das Vorgehen wird chronologisch bestimmt, um das Fortschreiten in der Konzeptualisierung einzufangen. Es gelangen die folgenden Themenbereiche zur Darstellung: Assimilierung, Integration, Kulturkonflikt, Multikulturalismus, Politiken der Anerkennung, Identitätspolitiken, Hybridität und Kreolisierung, transnationalistische sowie neo-assimilatorische Ansätze.
