Die inhaltliche Gestaltung des ersten Teils des IMK orientiert sich am Ablauf einer empirischen sozialwissenschaftlichen Untersuchung, die in Zusammenhang mit der Volkshochschule in Minden durchgeführt werden soll. Thematisch geht es hierbei um die Befragung von Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern der Mindener Volkshochschule. Dabei werden insbesondere die Phasen der Problemwahl, der Hypothesenformulierung, der Operationalisierung der Grundbegriffe, des Forschungsplanentwurfs und die Entwicklung der Untersuchungsinstrumente dargestellt und diskutiert. Parallel hierzu sollen in Kleingruppenarbeit Forschungsfragen entwickelt und empirisch bearbeitet werden
