Im "Schatten" Israels gelegen, rückt das Land jenseits des Jordan (= Jordanien) nur gelegentlich und nur partiell in den Blickpunkt einer Betrachtung. Dabei ist diese transjordanische Region, die sich vom See Gennesaret im Norden bis zum Golf von Aqaba im Süden erstreckt, ein geschichtsträchtiger Landstreifen, mit dem sich solch große Namen wie Mose (Berg Nebo), Jakob (Fluß Jabbok), Rut (Moab), Nabatäer (Hauptstadt Petra), Johannes des Täufer (Burg Machärus), die Dekapolis (Zehnstädtegebiet), ja, selbst mit Jesus (Taufe im Jordan) verbinden.
Das Seminar will neben theologischen auch (mit Blick auf eine geplante Jordanienreise im Herbst) historischen und archäologischen Fragen nachgehen.
