Glaubensbekenntnisse sind formelhafte Zusammenfassungen der grundlegenden Lehren einer Religion, "Kurzformeln des Glaubens", in denen eine Religion sich von andersgläubigen Strömungen abgrenzt. Die Kirchengeschichte zeigt zahlreiche Beispiele für ein Bekenntnis auf. Wegen ihrer liturgischen Verwendung sind vor allem das Nicaeno-Konstantinopolitanische und das Apostolische Glaubensbekenntnis bekannt und bis heute in Gebrauch.
Die Vorlesung möchte vor allem das Apostolische Glaubensbekenntnis in den Blick nehmen und auf seine biblische Begründung hin befragen.
