Die Problematik des gerechten Kriegs hat eine alte und fragwürdige Tradition. Doch erlebte sie in den letzten Jahrzehnten eine unerwartete Aktualisierung unter dem Druck einer universalistischen Ethik und angesichts der Gräuel und Massaker in vielen Teilen der Welt. Es stellt sich dann die Frage, wie die Staatengemeinschaft reagieren soll, wenn in einem Land die Zivilbevölkerung terrorisiert, gewaltsam vertrieben oder ermordet wird. Gibt es Kriege, die gerecht sind? Was macht eine Intervention zu einer humanitären? Was sind moralische Bewertungskriterien für gerechte Kriege? Sind militärische Anschläge gegen Terrorismus Kriege? Anhand von Texten aus den Bereichen der Ideengeschichte, des Völkerrechts und der Ethik, die zentrale Thesen der Theorie des gerechten Krieges vermitteln, sollen diese Frage untersucht werden.
Grundlage für die Vergabe von Leistungspunkten (im BA- und MA of Education-Studiengang) ist ein Portfolio. Es wird in der Veranstaltung bekannt gegeben.
