Die Vorlesung Meeresbiologie stellt das Meer als Lebensraum von großer Diversität dar. Nach einer Einführung genereller und globaler Charakteristika der Meere werden unterschiedliche marine Bereiche wie beispielsweise die Tiefsee, polare Regionen, Hochsee, Wattenmeer, Korallenriffe u.a. vorgestellt. Dabei geht es darum, den jeweiligen Lebensraum in seiner Gesamtheit zu verstehen. Die Vorlesung berührt auch nicht-biologische Disziplinen wie die Geologie und Klimatologie.

Es gibt zahlreiche Bücher über Meeresbiologie, in der Grundstruktur ortientiert sich die Vorlesung weitgehend an Gerlach, S.: Marine Systeme, Springer (ISBN 3540577971), 1994. (UB: AO626 G371)
