Unter "Kameralismus" wird gemeinhin eine spezifische deutsche Spielart des Merkantilismus verstanden, die als dominierende ökonomische Theorie die wirtschaftspolitische Praxis der Territorialfürsten des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts maßgeblich geprägt habe. Hierbei wird häufig übersehen, daß eine Vielzahl von Konzepten zum Verhältnis zwischen Staat und Ökonomie parallel vertreten wurden und protektionistische Ideen mit frühliberalen Vorstellungen in einer bunten Gemengelage auftraten. Die Übung will anhand gemeinsamer Lektüre und Interpretation ausgewählter Texte bedeutender ökonomischer Autoren der Vormoderne einen differenzierten Blick auf vormoderne Vorstellungen von Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsordnungen erarbeiten
