Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über Strukturen, Entwicklungen, Ereignisse und Persönlichkeiten der Geschichte Lateinamerikas vom 16. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem spanischen Kolonialreich.
