Im ersten Teil des Seminars geht es vor allem darum, wesentliche Erscheinungsformen von Unterentwicklung und deren Ursachen an konkreten Beispielen aus Südamerika aufzuzeigen. Dabei kommen auch die sogenannten Theorien der Unterentwicklung zur Sprache. Im zweiten Teil werden Maßnahmen zur Überwindung bzw. Minderung von Unterentwicklung vorgestellt und zu bewerten versucht. Der Bogen der Beispiele spannt sich dabei von der Regenwaldkolonisation über den Staudammbau zur Bewässerung und Energiegewinnung bis hin zu industriellen Großprojekten.

In der Einführungssitzung am 18. April 2002 werden Hinweise auf empfehlenswerte Literatur gegeben und mögliche Referatsthemen besprochen.
