Seit der Antike werden umfangreiche literarische Werke mit großem Aufwand komprimiert und kondensiert. Das Seminar widmet sich der Frage, welche Verfahren des textuellen Verdichtens und welche literarischen Gattungen des Kürzens sich in der Geschichte der modernen europäischen Literaturen etabliert haben. Darüber hinaus wird ausgehend von aktuellen medientheoretischen Diskussionen die Frage untersucht, ob sich Kompression als eine grundlegende Medienpraxis rekonstruieren lässt.
