Die Harry Potter Reihe ist durch ihren Erfolg eine Art Indikator für den Zeitgeist und nicht zuletzt ein beliebter Gegenstand von Bildungsprozessen. Inwiefern ist er als solcher von Ideologie getränkt? In diesem Seminar werden wir die Ideologie der Harry Potter Reihe auf Basis der kritischen Theorie Adornos genauer untersuchen: Wie reflektiert die Harry Potter Reihe den gesellschaftlichen Status quo bzw. die aktuellen politischen und sozialen Entwicklungen und ökonomischen Prozesse - und inwiefern werden dabei gesellschaftliche Herrschaftsverhältnisse und damit verbundene Hierarchien, Benachteiligungen und Ausgrenzungsmechanismen gerechtfertigt und hinterfragt? Wie lässt sich die Relation von reaktionären, konservativen, affirmativen und emanzipatorischen, kritischen, utopischen Elementen des Textes bestimmen? Hinter diesen Fragen steht nicht die Vorstellung, die LeserInnen würden durch die Darstellungen einfach manipulativ geprägt, sondern es wird davon ausgegangen, dass die Harry Potter Reihe ihre Beziehung zu den LeserInnen dadurch aufbaut, dass sie verbreitete, mehr oder weniger unbewusste Wünsche und Ängste sowie gesellschaftlich evozierte Denkformen anrührt und sich in die Phantasietätigkeit der LeserInnen involvieren lässt. Welche Konflikte lösen die ideologischen Widersprüche auf Seiten der Fans aus? Daran werden wir modellhaft die Bedeutung der Kulturindustrie für Bildungs bzw. Halbbildung diskutieren.

Requirements for participation, required level

Englischkenntnisse. Vorangegange Lektüre der sieben Harry Potter-Romane wird vorausgesetzt. Kenntnis der Filme genügt nicht.
