392150 Computational Analysis of Technical Natural Language I (S) (WiSe 2001/2002)

Contents, comment

The seminar will be divided into subprojects, each one being led by a participant in the PjS Computational Natural Language Systems in the previous year. Three tools were developed in that PjS: an automatic parser for the spoken, constrainted language of pilot-air traffic control communications; a semantic interpreter for actual transcribed cockpit speech, based on semantic parsing and attribute grammars using keyword recognition; and development of an SGML corpus of Cockpit Voice Recorder transcriptions, which incorporates various mark-ups for specific types of recognised dialog acts and speech acts. A limited number of new participants, up to 8 total, will each choose one of the three groups to work with. Various goals of project work could be: implementation of an on-line training program for pilot-ATC speech; automatic recognition and correction of non-standard phraseology; a speech-act and dialog-act formal analysis of accident flight transcripts to determine the role certain cognitive patterns may have played in the accidents.

Requirements for participation, required level

The working language of this seminar is English. This is a required seminar for visiting Erasmus/Socrates exchange students from Ireland. The second part of this seminar will be offered in Summer Semester 2002. It is possible to join the seminar also as a Projekt-Seminar (PjS participants will be expected to accomplish more than regular seminar participants).
