Modern, competence-oriented curricula require teachers to discuss with their learners, from years 8 to 12/13, a large variety of “authentic texts” with a high potential for language practice and critical debate.
In this class, we focus on different genres in fiction and non-fiction, ranging from daily columns in newspapers to magazine articles and political interviews on the one hand, and to literary texts on the other hand, including poems, a narration and a short play. We will discuss approaches and methods that are helpful in teaching such text-based material, and discuss both their authentic as well as aesthetic appeal(s).
The relevant material will be offered as download in the “Lernraum” to this seminar by the beginning of the new term.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
