Why is poetry so difficult, and difficult to teach? This class offers a survey of possible techniques to take away the sting from poetry analysis, based on material compiled in Arno Löffler/Eberhard Späth’s anthology English Poetry. Apart from communicating insight into the different forms and functions of poetry, you will particularly discuss, rehearse and compare different methodical approaches and consider possible ways to plan and organize thematic units and individual classroom sessions.
The class addresses students aiming to become teachers at Sek I and Sek II, and we will work with material that may be used from years 5 to 12/13.
