This course introduces students to the background and practices of graduate-level academic writing. Throughout the seminar, we will look at a variety of writing tools and strategies commonly used in the field of British and American Studies. In addition to exploring ways of finding secondary sources and analyzing different genres and styles, students will complete writing tasks on a regular basis. We will focus on the importance of structure, writing mechanics, academic vocabulary, and development of cohesion, among others. This course not only helps students to become more confident with academic writing, but also offers an overview of different academic conventions in our field.
