Die Studierenden werden in Element 4 in die sonderpädagogischen Handlungsfelder im Kontext diagnostischer Aufgaben eingeführt und in der Praxisphase begleitet. Die Fallstudie wird im Seminarzusammenhang vorbereitet und begleitet, dabei werden die Schritte des zirkulären förderdiagnostischen Prozesses fallbezogen reflektiert. Exemplarisch wird am Beispiel einzelner Entwicklungsbereiche der Prozess von Diagnostik, Förderplanung, Förderung und Evaluation erprobt.

In Element 4 wird eine modulbezogene Fallstudie im Umfang von 120 Stunden über zwei Semester vorbereitet und durchgeführt. Diese Elemente verbinden Theorie und Praxis und stellen eine sonderpädagogische Ergänzung zum Praxissemester dar. Sie sind im Sinne des forschenden Lernens konzipiert. Die/der Lehrende des Elements 4 beurteilt den Fallstudienbericht, d.h. ist PrüferIn für die Modulprüfung.
Die Praxisphase selbst wird in einer Förderschule oder in einer inklusiv arbeitenden allgemeinen Schule durchgeführt (120 Stunden), inklusive Vor- und Nachbereitung (30 Stunden). In der Fallstudie wird damit einer wissenschaftlichen Fragestellung nachgegangen, die theoretisch gerahmt ist und mit Hilfe qualitativer Forschungsmethoden in der Schulpraxis untersucht wird. Die Ergebnisse werden im Fallstudienbericht dokumentiert (Modulprüfung).
