In this seminar, we will consider the cultural production of leading figures in the British Black Arts Movements. Heavily inspired by the African American radical anti-racist discourse, British Black Arts Movements foregrounded issues of racism and racialization, exposed exclusionary practices, and mapped out new and alternative ways of being and creation for Black people, and marginalized groups more generally. We will consider the conceptual categories of Black Britain, paying special attention to the representation of home, identity, belonging, etc.
