Der Islam besitzt eine eigene Tradition religiöser Wohlfahrt mit weit verbreiteten informellen Spenden (Sg. sadaqa) sowie weiteren Hilfeleistungen in Familie und Nachbarschaft, mit festen Institutionen der Armensteuer (Sg. zakat) und frommen Stiftungen (Sg. waqf), durch die z.B. im Mittelalter Krankenhäuser finanziert wurden.
Diese Formen gründen auf und spiegeln sich in der Literatur: in Koran, Sunna, didaktischen und mystischen Texten sowie modernen sozialpolitischen Abhandlungen.
Anhand von Übersetzungen soll diese Ebene in der Übung mit ihren Hintergründen und ihren Auswirkungen erschlossen werden.
Die Texte werden am Beginn der Veranstaltung als Kopiervorlage ausgelegt.
