230730 Englisch: Creative Writing in English, Part 1, Level B2+ (S) (WiSe 2023/2024)

This course, the first of two parts, is designed for those who have little experience writing creatively, or at least little experience with writing creatively in English. We will discuss various aspects of creative writing, including form and structure. We will also be reading (short) texts from the English-speaking world for inspiration. We will concentrate on short story and poetry writing.

Please note: the first meeting of this class is on Wednesday, October 18th (week two).

Requirements for participation, required level

No placement test is required for this course. However, a minimum level of B2 is suggested.

  • Submission of two texts.
  • Weekly writing: each week a topic will be given, and writers can write as much or as little as they like on it. This is designed to keep the creative juices flowing, and to serve as inspiration.
  • Group work. Students will be assigned a writing group, and will work with that group throughout the semester.
  • Active participation in all class discussions.
  • A semester-end portfolio of all creative works, with a reflection on the writing process.
