Contents, comment

The social sciences generate methodological challenges and involve conceptual commitments of a kind different from the natural sciences. Features among them are the particular nature of explanation in the social sciences, the role of social function in producing and preserving social phenomena, the tension between methodological holism and methodological individualism, the character of social generalizations and their limitations, and the relationship between the social and the biological.
