Empirisch orientiertes soziologisches Arbeiten erfordert , unabhängig vom wissenschaftlichen oder praktischen Kontext, in der Regel die Auswahl einer bestimmten Stichprobe, anhand derer bestimmte Forschungsfragen untersucht werden sollen. Wie aber kommt man von einer Forschungsfrage zu einer Stichprobe, anhand derer interessierende Daten erhoben werden können?
Das Seminar richtet sich an Studentinnen und Studenten, die ihr Verständnis hinsichtlich der Auswahl einer Stichprobe vertiefen möchten. Neben unterschiedlichen Auswahlverfahren, werden in einem zweiten Bereich spezielle Forschungsdesigns wie z.B. das Paneldesign oder Zwillingsstudien genauer betrachtet werden. Auch soll in einem dritten Abschnitt ein Blick in die Praxis von soziologischen Arbeitsbereichen geworfen werden, um zu verstehen wie z.B. in der Marktforschung, dem SOEP oder Allbus die Rekrutierung von Stichproben erfolgt.
