The lecture Genome Research gives a broad introduction in genome research in prokaryotes and eukaryotes using selected model organisms. First, the theoretical and methodological basis of structural genomics is covered, in particular basic knowledge in genome organization, genome mapping, genome and EST-sequencing, comparative genome organization, genome and EST annotation. The second part of the lecture focuses on functional genomics. Here, the theoretical and methodological basis of transcriptomics (chip and arraytechnology) and proteomics (2d-gel electrophoresis and mass spectrosmetry) is presented. Subsequently, approaches of functional genomics are presented that rely on the analysis of mutant phenotypes. Current genome research projects on prokaryotes, unicellular eukaryotes and higher eukaryotes will be presented in appropriate sections of the lecture. [Lf: n; 50: n; Fs: n]

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
