220092 Wachstum und Grenzen des Wachstums in der Geschichte (GST+GST) (SoSe 2022)

Wir sind gewöhnt, Wachstum als ökonomische Tatsache zu betrachten. Aber Wachstum ist in erster Linie eine theoretische Kategorie, mit deren Hilfe dann bestimmte Phänomene beschrieben werden können. Sie dient unter anderem dazu, natürliche Prozesse zu beschreiben (etwa das Wachstum von Nachkommen lebender Spezies oder das Wachstum von Populationen). Was bedeutet "Wachstum" als historische Kategorie? Woher kommen Ideen wie ökonomisches Wachstum und seine Grenzen? Was bedeutet "degrowth" (negatives Wachstum) für Gesellschaften? Ebenso wie als ökonomische Kategorie ist Wachstum heute auch ins Zentrum der ökologischen Debatte gerückt. Welche Grenzen (der Nachhaltigkeit) setzt der Planet mit seinen Ressourcen dem gesellschaftlichen und ökonomischen Wachstum? Welche historische Rolle spielt das Bevölkerungswachstum bei der Entstehung moderner Wachstumsgesellschaften? Solche und weitere Fragen werden wir epochenübergreifend diskutieren.
