The lecture 'Introduction to Linguistics I' gave an overview of the different levels of human language. This seminar extends the introduction within one core field of descriptive linguistics: Morphology. In this course, we will discuss and analyse the patterns of word formation and inflection in the English language. We will take a descriptive approach to English morphology, not arguing which grammatical structures are correct, but which grammatical structures exist, and why. As students you will get to know fundamental morphological processes such inflection, derivation, and compounding, and look at the underlying rules and principles of English word formation and its historical dimension.
