220055 Wahrheit und Objektivität in der Geschichtswissenschaft (GST) (SoSe 2024)

Der preußische Historiker Leopold von Ranke (*1795 †1886) sah in der „Vergegenwärtigung der vollen Wahrheit“ das Ziel jeder wissenschaftlich betriebenen Geschichtsschreibung. Mit dem Siegeszug poststrukturalistischer Ansätze in der Geschichtswissenschaft hat sich jedoch inzwischen die Ansicht durchgesetzt, eine wahre oder objektive Rekonstruktion historischer Verläufe sei nicht möglich. Die vorgenannte Passage aus Rankes Oeuvre wird dagegen nur noch zitiert, wenn Historiker*innen einen Kronzeugen für die vermeintliche Naivität ihrer Vorgänger*innen in geschichtstheoretischen Fragen suchen. Doch ist die Kritik an Wahrheit und Objektivität in der Geschichtsschreibung wirklich berechtigt? Und wie sähe eine wissenschaftstheoretisch tragfähige Alternative zu Rankes Modell aus? Im Kurs sollen diese Fragen anhand von zentralen Texten zur Geschichtstheorie diskutiert werden.
