Das Thema Migration ist in der (sozial-)politischen Debatte nicht neu, denn Deutschland ist seit vielen Jahrzehnten ein Einwanderungsland. Die Ursachen der Migration sind dabei vielfältig: Neben Arbeitsmigration sind gleichwohl Fluchtgründe Faktoren, die dazu führen, dass viele Menschen ihre Heimat verlassen (müssen). Jedoch sind ebenso Naturkatastrophen und Wetterextreme als zunehmende Faktoren zu berücksichtigen.
In dem Kurs wird sich mit verschiedenen Migrationsgründen (sowie Begriffsbestimmungen), deren geschichtlicher Betrachtung und aktuellen (sozialpolitischen) Herausforderungen auseinandergesetzt.

Grundkenntnisse im Bereich Sozialpolitik werden vorausgesetzt. Aufgeschlossenheit, sich mit empirischem Material auseinanderzusetzen, ist notwendig.

In Kleingruppen soll eine Fokussierung auf ein vorab ausgewähltes und zum Kurs passendes Thema stattfinden. In einzelnen Sitzungen soll eine Eigenarbeit und detaillierte Auseinandersetzung erfolgen. Die Ergebnisse werden am Ende des Semesters präsentiert.
