230186 Hospitality and Hostility: Checking Out the Hotel in Anglophone Literature and Film (S) (SoSe 2024)

Contents, comment

This class will deal with a variety of visual and literary representations of the hotel, predominantly from the North American and British cultural contexts. We will investigate the aesthetic function of the hotel as a setting as well as its meanings as a space of transitions, confrontations, and encounters between strangers, and in doing so will unravel the social, cultural, and ideological significance of these representations.

Notwendige Voraussetzungen: Anglistik FsB vom 15.11.2023 (Einschreibung ab SoSe 2023)
Vor dem Besuch der Veranstaltungen in den Profilmodulen muss der Language Proficiency Test (23-ANG-Basis1) bestanden sein. Im Master of Education gilt diese Voraussetzung mit dem erfolgreichen Masterzugang als erbracht.

Students are expected to prepare material in advance for each session. This preparation will include the reading of primary and secondary literature, as well as watching movies and other visual material.
