In diesem Seminar werden wir gemeinsam Monografien zum Thema Moderne lesen. Dazu gehören Klassiker wie u.a. James Scott, Seeing like a state, aber auch neuere Publikationen zum Thema Whiteness und Exklusion wie Tyler Stovall, White Freedom. The Racial History of an Idea. Es wird z.B. darum gehen, welche Selbstverständnisse mit dem Konzept Moderne verbunden wurden, oder darum, wie Aushandlungsprozesse um Macht, Gewalt, und Partizipation gestaltet waren.
Um im laufenden Semesterbetrieb das Lesen von Monografien zu ermöglichen, wird das Seminar blockweise stattfinden. Die genaue Organisation findet in der ersten Sitzung in der ersten Semesterwoche statt.
