5 September to 16 September 2005; 9-10.30; 10.45-12.15; 13.30-15. 00; 10 days = 60 hrs = 4 SWS

Class will meet in the multimedia room of the AVZ on N5.

Contents:
There will be four major and three minor themes that will be examined using primary (historical, literary) and secondary texts, films and TV programmes, amongst them the recent BBC Scotland series "Writing Scotland" (8 programmes; September to November 2004).

The four major themes are Scottish nationalism - From the Wars of Independence to Devolution; a history of Scottish culture, with special reference to language, education and religion; the Highlands and the House of Stewart; and the Scottish Islands. A minor focus will be on the history of three major Scottish cities, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

There is a reader (price: 12 Euros), which can be collected from my office and on Wednesday, 20 July 2005 from the language lab in C01- Mediothek at 2pm sharp.
