"Bereits heute besteht die Möglichkeit, komplette mikroelektronische Systeme auf einem einzigen Chip zu realisieren – man spricht von SoCs, Systems on Chip. Diese Bausteine werden immer mehr in unser tägliches Leben integriert. Sie sind oft nicht als eigenständiger Computer zu erkennen sondern sind Bestandteil eines größeren, sie umgebenden Systems; man spricht von eingebetteten Systemen. Im Rahmen dieser Vorlesung betrachten wir die besonderen Anforderungen an den Entwurf und den Betrieb solcher eingebetteter Systeme.

Die Funktionalität eingebetteter Systeme wird durch die Integration von Prozessoren, anwendungsspezifischer Hardware und Software realisiert. Die besondere Herausforderung beim Entwurf solcher Systeme ergibt sich durch die Heterogenität der Systemarchitektur, die Komplexität der Aufgabenstellung und durch die Notwendigkeit, eine Vielzahl technischer und ökonomischer Vorgaben einhalten zu müssen. Schwerpunkte dieser Vorlesung liegen auf Entwurfsmethoden und Architekturen für eingebettete Systeme. Neben eingebetteten Prozessoren und anwendungsspezifischen Architekturen werden die speziellen Anforderungen an die Kommunikation in und zwischen eingebetteten Systemen diskutiert.

Die Vorlesung vermittelt ein vertieftes Verständnis der Anforderungen an eingebettete Systeme und zeigt Lösungsansätze für die Konzipierung und die Realisierung ressourceneffizienter Hardware-Software-Systeme auf."
