Der römische Redner, Staatsmann und Staatstheoretiker Cicero hat sowohl auf Augustinus als auch auf Hieronymus stark gewirkt. Im Briefwechsel zwischen ihnen treten jedoch erhebliche Differenzen etwa in Fragen der Bibelexegese zutage.
Wir wollen uns in einem ersten Schritt mit den verschiedenen Cicero-Rezeptionen Augustins und Hieronymus' beschäftigen und hierzu einschlägige Texte lesen. Ziel ist es, Einblick in zentrale Werke der beiden Religionsphilosophen und Kirchenlehrer zu geben.
In einem zweiten Schritt werden wir uns mit dem Briefwechsel der beiden Kirchenväter beschäftigen.
