Zwar ist in den neuen kompetenzorientierten Lehrplänen das Inhaltsfeld „Erkenntnistheorie“ vornehmlich auf die Einführungsphase der Oberstufe beschränkt worden, hier bietet es aber Schüler*innen die Gelegenheit grundlegende Sach- und Methodenkompetenzen an zu bisweilen als „schwierig“ empfundenen Texten zu erwerben. In dem Seminar sollen bekannte und unbekannte Texte der Erkenntnistheorie für den Schulunterricht transformiert und eigene Unterrichtssequenzen entwickelt und erprobt werden.
In den Lehrplänen des Faches Praktische Philosophie (Sek 1) finden sich Fragen der Erkenntnistheorie im Fragenkreis 6 (Die Frage nach Wahrheit, Wirklichkeit und Medien) vertreten. Für Lehramtsstudierende dieses Faches bietet das Seminar ebenfalls die Gelegenheit der Entwicklung eigener Unterrichtssequenzen
Im Modul „Philosophie für die Schule“ ist das Seminar dem Fachseminar von Hr. Dr. Schliemann zu Descartes zugeordnet, ein gleichzeitiger Besuch dieses Seminars ist daher dringend zu empfehlen.
