Die Veranstaltung findet als Hybrid-Veranstaltung statt (mit sowohl synchronen als auch asynchronen Elementen). Es können alle Leistungsnachweise erworben werden.
Ziel des Colloquium Latinum ist es zum einen, aktive Sprachkompetenz im Lateinischen zu trainieren. Dabei ist jeder Sitzung ist ein Schwerpunktthema zugeordnet. Vorbereitend zu jeder Sitzung lernen die TeilnehmerInnen zentrale Wörter, die sie im Verlauf der Veranstaltung aktiv verwenden. Zudem wird in einigen Sitzungen die praktische Anwendung zentraler Kapitel der lateinischen Grammatik geübt (z.B. AcI, PC, Abl.abs.).
Zum anderen ist es Ziel der Veranstaltung, die Studierenden mit insbesondere neulateinischen Texten vertraut zu machen, deren Stil und Formensprache in selbst verfassten lateinischen Texten imitiert wird.
Die Veranstaltung entwickelt die sprachlichen Kompetenzen weiter, die in den Veranstaltungen Deutsch-Lateinisch I und II (BM1, BM2) erworben wurden.
