Robert Musil gilt als einer der herausragenden Autoren der deutschsprachigen Moderne. In seinen Romanen, Erzählungen, Dramen und Essays problematisiert er beispielsweise Fragen nach rechter Lebensführung, nach Moral und Unmoral, das Verhältnis von Wirklichkeit und Möglichkeit, Selbstverlust, Erkenntnis- und Sprachskepsis und die nicht zuletzt daraus resultierende Sehnsucht nach Einheit und mystischen Grenzerfahrungen. Das Seminar wird Musils Erstling Die Verwirrungen des Zöglings Törleß behandeln, die größeren Erzählungen ("Vollendung der Liebe", "Die Versuchung der stillen Veronika", "Grigia", "Die Portugiesin" und "Tonka"), das Schauspiel Die Schwärmer, Auszüge aus dem von Musil so bezeichneten "Nachlaß zu Lebzeiten" und dem unvollendet ebliebenen Roman Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften sowie ausgewählte Essays.
Profunde Textkenntnis sowie aktive Beteiligung am Seminar werden erwartet.
